Vandalism & Theft

Trespassers can be a problem on your woodlot, particularly if they cause damage or steal timber or Christmas trees.

As a Nova Scotia woodlot owner you have the right to prevent people from entering your property under the Protection of Private Property Act.

Placing gates on your roads and locking them can be effective. Make sure gates are well marked and highly visible. Signs warning the public about the presence of a gate are also highly advisable.

'No Hunting', 'No Trespassing' and 'No Cutting' signs can help advise people that you do not wish them to enter your property.

Neighbours can also be asked to report any suspicious vehicles or activities to you immediately.
